Black Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa)

Grows to about 6 feet tall and will sucker to form a thicket, if the suckers are not removed. It can grow in boggy areas but it’s adaptable to medium moist soil. It has clusters of white flowers in the spring. For best fruit production it needs full sun. The fruit, as the names suggests, is very tart but it is edible, generally as jam, jelly, or juice. Can be subject to deer browsing.
