Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata)

In the wild you will find it in wetter areas, but in the garden, it is versatile. Its elegant candle-stick like spikes will bloom purple in late summer. This 2’ to 6’ plant has spikes of purple, blue flowers. They are low maintenance and may naturalize by rhizomes and self-seeding. Generally tolerant of deer and rabbits, although young growth may be nibbled by rabbits. Pair with Joe-Pye Weed, Culvers Root, Boneset, Goldenrod, Purple Stem Aster.
