Native to the East Coast of the US, this beautiful plant in the pea family is typically found in open meadows, prairies, woodland edges, and fields.
It is closely related to Baptisia species, prefers full sun and well-drained soils. The bright yellow flowers resemble those of Wild Lupine. These flowers attract bees and butterflies. It has an extremely sturdy taproot and nitrogen fixer that improves long term health of native plant communities by improving fertility of the soil and managing storm water.
