While monarchs love this milkweed, you won’t find it being sold at nurseries often. While not as pink as Swamp Milkweed, we still think it’s beautiful! Milkweed is the primary larval host plant for Monarch butterflies. It is also a fragrant showy plant. Grows 3' to 5' tall. They display pink/white/mauve fragrant flowers over a long blooming period from June-August. Common Milkweed is very low maintenance. They are drought tolerant and will spread by rhizomes as well as self-seeding. They are deer resistant, and will grow in poor rocky soil. Looks great with Seaside Goldenrod and Butterfly Weed.
