Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida)

Flowering Dogwood flowers in spring before the leaves appear. Red berries appear in fall and are a favorite food of birds and mammals. It is a larval host for Spring Azure butterflies, one of the first spring butterflies. It is also an important food source for native bees. The foliage is scarlet red in the fall.
