New York Aster (Aster novae-belgii)

Mature New York Aster is resistant to deer and rabbits but is popular with pollinators. Bees, beetles, butterflies, and moths all visit this plant to benefit from its blooms. New York Aster can serve as a host plant for several species. They are generally shorter, with most plants being 2' to 4' tall. The stems are thin and leaves are smooth. Flower colors range from pale pink to purple. This Aster is more bushy and compact and produces more flowers than the New England Aster. The long bloom times and compact nature make them excellent bedding plants. They would be ideal for borders and small gardens. They can be used as cut flowers, but will be short lived.
