Scarlet Beebalm (Monarda didyma)

A hummingbird magnet! Plant it near Lobelia cardinalis and there will be lots of happy hummingbirds. Grows to about 3' to 4' tall. It needs rich, consistently moist soil and is best in full sun with some afternoon shade. As a host plant Red Beebalm is associated with the Hermit Sphinx (Sphinx eremitus), the Gray Marvel moth (Agriopodes teratophora), and the Pyralid Moth (Pyrausta orphisalis). Can be subject to powder mildew so make sure it has good air circulation. It will spread to form colonies. Deer and rabbits generally do not eat it.
