Red Chokeberry (Aronia arbutifolia)

Red Chokeberry is a multi-stemmed, 6’ to 12’ shrub with year round interest. In spring it has flat clusters of white flowers. Spring to summer brings dark green, glossy leaves that turn orange-red in the fall. The berries turn bright red in the fall and can remain into January. Without the leaves and berries there is still winter interest from the reddish-brown exfoliating bark. It grows in moist to average soils. Plant in full sun for more flowers and the best fall color. Great alternative to invasive Burning Bush.
