Rosebay Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum)
Rosebay Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum)
Rosebay Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum) is an evergreen that is native to woodland areas as an understory shrub. It grows best in part-shade and tolerates full shade. Soil should be moist but well drained, consistently wet soil can cause root rot. Mulch around the base and avoid cultivation in the root zone since the roots are shallow. Avoid placing it in very windy or hot areas. It generally grows to 15 feet high but can get to 30 feet in the right conditions. Large clusters of pink to nearly white flowers bloom in late June. It has a loose open multi-branch structure that looks great in a naturalized setting.
