Smooth Aster (Aster laevis)

Smooth Aster blooms in late summer and can be found in dry, open woods and fields, and disturbed areas and roadsides. It has attractive flowers and bold foliage, usually with colorful fall foliage. The seeds attract juncos and other winter birds while the flowers attract long-tongued and short-tongued bees, butterflies, and caterpillars. Grows 18 inches to 3 feet tall. Pairs well with Butterfly Weed, Foxglove, and Beardtongue.
