Virginia Sweetspire (Itea virginica)

Virginia Sweetspire grows 3 to 4 feet high and will sucker, spreading 4 to 6 feet. It’s good for erosion control and soil stabilization. It is rabbit and deer resistant. While generally found along stream edges, it is adaptable to drier soils and fairly drought tolerant when established. It has a graceful arching form and lots of racemes of white flowers that attract butterflies and bees in late spring. It is tolerant of some shade but produces more flowers and has better fall color with more sun.
